Ivan Henares and Sofia Fonseca take over as ICTC President and Secretary General

Fergus Maclaren turned over the Presidency of the ICOMOS International Cultural Tourism Committee to Ivan Henares after the closing of the International Workshop in Granada, Spain on December 13, 2024. Sofia Fonseca took over as Secretary-General. Ivan and Sofia will serve until regular elections are held in October 2026.

Maclaren has served as President from 2017 until present. Among the achievements of his term include the updating and adoption of the ICOMOS International Charter for Cultural Heritage Tourism in 2022, the organization of the Africa24 Conference, the first Sub-Saharan meeting of ICOMOS since 2003, and the Cultural Tourism Visitor Management (CT&VM) Framework, a tool developed by ICTC for the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC).

Dr. Henares has been an Expert Member of ICTC since 2008, serving as Vice President from 2014 to 2020, and Secretary-General from 2020 to 2024. He is the first Filipino, and possibly Southeast Asian, to become a president of an International Scientific Committee (ISC) of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

Fonseca is currently a Member-at-Large of the Bureau. She founded Teiduma, a consultancy specializing in heritage, culture, and sustainability dedicated to advancing heritage as a catalyst for sustainable development.
